Spatial-Temporal Seasonal Variability of Extreme Precipitation under Warming Climate in Pakistan

نویسندگان

چکیده

Climate science has confirmed the alteration of hydrological cycle attributed to global warming. This warming tendency affects monsoon precipitation in Pakistan with an unprecedented intensity, causing severe flooding. Therefore, it is inevitable observe recent spring and summer changes extreme throughout Pakistan. The present study examined 8 indices past 50-year period (1971–2020) (stretched two data periods; 1971–1998 1999–2020) using Mann–Kendall Sen’s method investigate direction magnitude observed trends. Spring wet days significantly increased central eastern (Kakul, Kotli, Jhelum) western (Cherat, Chitral, Peshawar) regions 1st but decreased areas including southern region 2nd period. We further high-intensity (R10, R20) same seasons. intensity R20 was much stronger which reduced during northern regions. extended circle investigation very heavy (R30 R50). R30 R50 followed pattern as for R10 R20. However, pre-monsoon northern, east-western, south-eastern Summer westerly humid experienced a decreasing Our results concluded that most significant extremes occurred higher recurring frequency all

Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Variability of Extreme Precipitation Indices (North and West of Iran)

The frequency of precipitation extreme event can cause flood or change the drought period. Accurate understanding of these changes is necessary to take action to reduce these effects. In this research, temporal and spatial changes of 14 precipitation indices for eight synoptic stations in the North and West of the country were investigated. For this purpose, after reconstructing the daily preci...

Temporal and spatial scaling impacts on extreme precipitation

Convective and stratiform precipitation events have fundamentally different physical causes. Using a radar composite over Germany, this study separates these precipitation types and compares extremes at different spatial and temporal scales, ranging from 1 to 50 km and 5 min to 6 h, respectively. Four main objectives are addressed. First, we investigate extreme precipitation intensities for con...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Antarctic Precipitation from Atmospheric Methods

The spatial and temporal variability of net precipitation (precipitation minus evaporation/sublimation) for Antarctica derived from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts operational analyses via the atmospheric moisture budget is assessed in comparison to a variety of glaciological and meteorological observations and datasets. For the 11-yr period 1985–95, the average continent...

Temporal and Spatial Variability of Precipitation from Observations and Models*

Principal component analysis (PCA) is utilized to explore the temporal and spatial variability of precipitation from GPCP and a CAM5 simulation from 1979 to 2010. In the tropical region, the interannual variability of tropical precipitation is characterized by two dominant modes (El Niño and El Niño Modoki). The first and second modes of tropical GPCP precipitation capture 31.9% and 15.6% of th...
